Create a publisher group

A commissions group brings together the publishers you pay the same way: every affiliate in a group earns the same rates. Creating several groups lets you pay a cashback site, a content blog and an influencer differently, without ever touching your program rules.

Requirements: you must be an advertiser and have created at least one commission rule in the program. A group must carry at least one active rule, otherwise creation is rejected.

Groups are managed inside a program, not from the main menu. So start by opening the program concerned.

Once you open your program from Manage my programs, its menu gives access to Configuration.
  1. In the left menu, open Manage my programs, then select the program concerned.
  2. Open Configuration, then the Commission Rules tab.
  3. Expand the Commissions groups section: your existing groups appear, the one that receives new affiliates carrying the Default group label.
  4. Click Add group at the top right of the section. The creation form opens on the right.

The Create group form: name, visibility, default group, then one rule with two commission tiers.
  1. Enter the Group name. Pick a name that makes sense to you and to your affiliates, for example Cashback sites or Content creators.
  2. Set the visibility with the Public or Private switch. A public group is visible to everyone on your program details page, a private group is visible only to you and to the affiliates who belong to it.
  3. Turn on Set as default group only if you want new affiliates to land in this group.
  4. Open the Add rule list and pick one of the rules created in Commission Rules. Repeat for every rule this group should pay.
  5. For each rule added, enter the amount or the percentage under Commission. A cost per click rule takes a single amount, followed by / by click.
  6. To reward volume, add tiers with the plus icon: enter the commission and the Volume of conversions per month from which it applies. The first tier always starts at 0 conversions.
  7. If your program runs several currencies, select the currency with the selector placed to the right of the Add rule list, and enter the commissions currency by currency.
  8. Click Create group. The message Group created confirms the save and the new group appears in the list.

Understanding the default group

Every program has a default group, created automatically with the program and identified by the Default group label. It receives all new affiliates: a publisher who joins your program from the Marketplace is placed there automatically, and it is preselected when you create an affiliate profile or accept an application.

  • Only one group is the default at a time. Turning on Set as default group for a group removes that status from the previous one.
  • The default group cannot be deleted, and it must keep at least one rule.
  • Changing the default group does not move any existing affiliate: it only affects future arrivals.
  • Changing a group’s commissions, on the other hand, applies to all its affiliates, for their future conversions.

Why create several groups

  • Pay for the value delivered: a cashback site, a review blog and an influencer do not bring the same traffic and do not need the same rate.
  • Without touching the program: you keep your commission rules as they are and only change the rate carried by the group.
  • Negotiate discreetly: a private group lets you grant a preferential rate without showing it on your public program page.
  • Track performance: Reporting offers a Groups tab and a Groups filter to compare the profitability of each partner type.

Best practices

  • Create your commission rules first, your groups second: a group is useless without an active rule.
  • Name your groups by partner type (cashback, content, influence, comparison sites) rather than by rate, so the name stays accurate even when the rate changes.
  • Keep the number of groups small and readable. Three or four are usually enough.
  • Save custom rates for a single publisher for truly exceptional cases: they completely override the group configuration.
Tip: to create a group close to an existing one, use the Duplicate action on the group row, then rename the copy and adjust its rates.

Use cases

  • Three types, three rates: you create Content at 8 %, Cashback at 3 % and Comparison sites at 5 %, all with the same sale rule.
  • Reward volume: in the Content group, you add a 10 % tier from 50 conversions per month, to encourage your publishers to push harder.
  • A confidential deal: you create a private Media partnership group at 12 %, invisible to other publishers, and place only that partner in it.

Frequently asked
questions

The button only appears once at least one rule has been added to the group. Open the Add rule list, pick a program rule, then enter its commission: the buttons then show at the bottom of the form.

If no rule is offered, none exists yet: create it first in Commission Rules.

Open the group with the edit icon, turn on Set as default group and save. The previous group automatically loses that status.

Affiliates already in place do not move: only new arrivals will be placed in the new default group.

Two reasons. The default group can never be deleted, its bin icon is greyed out with the tooltip “Default group can’t be deleted”.

Any other group cannot be deleted while it is used by an automatic pay rise: the message then asks you to delete that pay rise first. Also move its affiliates to another group before deleting it.

A newly created rule is not added to any group automatically. Open each group concerned, add the rule with the Add rule list, enter its commission and save.

Your tiers must increase. The conversion volume of the next tier must be strictly higher than the one above it, for example 0 then 50 then 100.

You, and only the affiliates who belong to it. A private group and its rates do not appear on your public program page, unlike a public group.
