Postback – Tracking Publisher

Postback lets Affilae automatically send conversion data to publishers. Each time a conversion happens, Affilae calls the URL provided by the publisher with a GET request.

Publishers can then monitor their campaign performance in their own tool, within minutes of each sale, without opening their Affilae interface.

Prerequisites: a valid postback URL, provided by your tracking tool, and write permission on your publisher profile configuration. Without that permission the settings icon stays disabled.

Why use Postback

  • Your data stays synchronised between Affilae and your own system.
  • You receive every new conversion in your tool, with no manual export.
  • Your reporting becomes automatic.

When the postback is sent

  • Once per conversion, when it is created, within minutes of the sale being recorded (not for a conversion refused on creation; a conversion added by hand or through the API only sends a postback if the notification option is turned on).
  • It is not sent again when the conversion is later accepted, refused or edited: follow those statuses in Affilae or through the API.
  • If several of your clicks are part of the conversion journey, you receive one postback per click.
  • Affilae calls your URL with a GET request. If your server does not answer within 5 seconds or returns an error, the call is not retried.

Where the postback URL is configured

Postback is set up on your publisher profile, in a dedicated window.

  1. In the sidebar, click Profiles, then your profile, then Configuration.
  2. At the top right of the page, click the settings icon.
  3. Choose Postback URL in the menu that opens.

Configure Postback, step by step

  1. Paste your postback URL into the URL field.
  2. Affilae creates one row for each parameter of the URL (key=value).
  3. For each parameter, pick the information Affilae should send you from the Postback options list.
  4. Select nothing if you want to keep the static value already written in the URL.
  5. Click Create to activate the postback.

Here is an example postback URL.

https://tracking.your-tool.com/postback?aff_sid1={{conversion.external_identifier}}&event={{event}}&payout={{conversion.click.commission}}&campaign={{campaign}}

In this example the detected parameters appear on the left: aff_sid1, event, payout and campaign. Next to each one you pick a dynamic value, for example External ID (e.g. order ID) or Commissions amount. A parameter for which you select nothing is sent as written in the URL: in this example, {{event}} and {{campaign}} would be sent as is.

Tip: always paste the full URL with its parameters, rather than starting from a bare URL. Automatic detection then creates every row at once, and all you have to do is pick the values.

A GET request. Affilae sends it every time a conversion is achieved, to the URL you saved.

In the sidebar, click Profiles, then your profile, then Configuration; the settings icon is at the top right. The Postback URL entry is in that menu.

After you paste the URL, Affilae creates one row for each parameter of the URL (key=value). The parameter name stays on the left, and the Postback options list on the right lets you choose the data to send.

Select nothing in the Postback options list for that parameter. The static value written in the URL is then kept as is.

Two possible causes. Either no parameter has been set yet, and at least one row is required. Or the URL is not valid: a tooltip then tells you the URL must be valid to be registered.

Yes. Reopen the same window: the button becomes Update and a Delete button appears next to it. Your saved parameters are reloaded there.
